A fresh take on our 100% Maryland Stillpoint Kölsch, this year it was brewed with 100% Monocacy hops! The noble characteristics of this unique hop pair wonderfully with the simple pleasure that is a fine kölsch.
100% Maryland malts (pils and Vienna) provide the malty backbone for this gorgeous hybrid (fun fact- kölsch is brewed with an ale yeast that is treated like a lager yeast!). This was generously hopped to 23 IBU using two additions of Monocacy hop.
The nose is subtle and malty, with a hint of fruity esters from the yeast and some earthy and herbal notes from the hops.
This gives way to refreshing beer with slightly sweet undertones and a crisp finish. The hops are present but not overly powerful with their herbaceous and slightly floral character.
A truly tasty pint, and an excellent showcase for the noble characteristics of our beloved Monocacy hop!
