Stillpoint Farm Mercantile
Our vision for the Stillpoint Farm Mercantile is to provide a venue to help support local producers, especially agricultural producers, connect directly with customers. This enables farmers / producers to sell their products directly without the cost of paying the “middle man” or shipping. Providing this market makes it more feasible for farmers, (and related services such as veterinarians, meat processors, woolen mills, or cottage industries using local products) to be able to remain sustainable while helping to supply our local food needs. Our customers benefit by having access to local responsibly produced food and knowing just where, and from whom, it comes.
Many of the mercantile products come from here at Stillpoint Farm including lamb, beef, honey, produce, and wool products. Other meat / produce / dairy products are sourced from local farmers who are utilizing responsible, regenerative practices. All producers of animal products follow the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare originally developed by the UK Farm Animal Welfare Council in 1979. These have become part of the recommendations from veterinary medical associations in the U.S., Canada, and Europe as well as being endorsed by the ASPCA, the World Health Organization of Animal Health, and the American Humane Society. You can rest assured that these animals were raised in a healthy, happy environment free from:
- Hunger and Thirst
- Discomfort
- Pain, injury, or disease
- Fear and distress
- And with sufficient space, proper facilities, and companionship to be able to express normal behavior
Produce is grown here on the farm or sourced locally, in season (with some green house help). You won’t find watermelons in April here. We are not shopping the fresh food wholesale markets to be able to have a large variety of out-of-season products. Part of embracing the ebb and flow of the seasons is through enjoying seasonal produce. Our staff will always be ready and willing to help with culinary ideas should you need some (and watch for upcoming recipe suggestions).
In addition to the products offered for sale we hope to be able to offer opportunities for people to explore their own creative use of agricultural products. Watch for upcoming workshops.
And always – feel free to ask questions and offer ideas. We are here for you.
